did you know the US was gonna send alan b shepard in space a month before russia sent yuri gagarin, but delayed it due to not knowing for sure if he'd survive? alan b shepard was pissed bc he said it risked russia getting into space first

US did it with safety regulations, the USSR just kind of threw shit up there without caring if animals and people would come back alive on the first go. This is why we were first to land people on the moon.

People typically call the U.S the winner because landing on the moon is a more complex mission and requires a significant amount of knowledge and time to successfully get them there. From what i’ve heard, i feel like it’s a win for all in terms of progressing as a whole.
