He was definitely not a "white person" but was also not "Arab". "Arabs" are indeed, descended from Abraham, but not from Sarah. Different people group. Different culture.

Didn’t the Israelites take wives (and vice versa) from the Israelites?

The children of Jacob/Israel were commanded to marry only other children of Israel. This was mandated to keep the culture and more importantly, the attachment to God strong. The children of Ismael were not part of the 12 tribes of Israel so would not have been normally a part of acceptable partners. Many times the children of Israel got themselves in trouble by marrying outside their fellow Israelites. Solomon being a prime example of this. There were exceptions that were included, but these individuals, for the most part, joined the culture of the Israelites. Rahab and Ruth come to mind.

My point was that the Israelites where not *only* from the children of Jacob, but they likely did resemble their neighbors ethnically since they did take wives from them (the women became Hebrews, and worshiped the true God, but their genetics didnt change)

I think its ok for different cultures to depict Christ as looking like them, like this really pretty madonna and child from China

I dunno. The goal is for us to strive to be more like Him and less like ourselves.

its art, tho, I’m not advocating that every culture should CLAIM that Christ was their ethnicity (that’s rather silly) I just think art DEPICTING him can be in a cultural style that is not 1st century middle eastern art like would have been made when he was alive. Christ was human, and so are we, so there is nothing wrong drawing him like ourselves…

Sorry if that’s a lot, but I technically agree that the goal is to be like him XD

Not at all too much. I am not against art. He was and is Truth. He was born a descendant of Mary, Solomon, and David for very specific reasons. He was born among His chosen people; where He will eventually return.
To honor the second (of ten) commandment, I try to never show His image in any depiction of His face. It is absolutely true that God does not see the outside of people as humanity does, but instead "sees what is important". Respectfully, for myself, I choose truth over art on this issue.

huh, that’s a interesting opinion, and I totally respect that. As an artist, I always try to depict what is good and lovely as the Bible says. Of course, one should NEVER ascribe honor or devotion to an image, but personally, I like seeing art of the Bible and of Christ. But your opinion is very valid, and very biblical!

What I mean is, I dont think that the 2nd commandment means ‘No visual art,’ but there is nothing wrong with that interpretation, since many valid denominations take that position.

I am not an expert on art by any stretch of the imagination I regard the different forms and mediums the same. Sculpted, painted, carved, etc. Some I enjoy. Some .. just don't speak to me, if you know what I mean. I know of few "painted" pieces prior to say.. 100 AD that weren't on pottery. Pastor Voddie Baucham speaks against "portraits of Jesus" hanging in churches and homes to great effect, regardless of the pigmentation used for skin color. Ultimately, each person must decide what constitutes adherence to scripture based upon a good understanding of it. Will it mean a loss of something when we are before the throne? Only God knows.
