I’ve been saying that for years

I always say that to war hawks who've never themselves served . . . or in other words, very nearly all leftists.

One of them tried to invoke France helping us during the Revolution, but failed to take a few things into account. Namely that France had a strategic interest in an independent United States between British holdings in Canada and the American frontier and French holdings in the Caribbean; and that French came in droves to fight for America even before war was declared. We don’t have a strategic reason in Ukraine, and no leftist will ever get up the stones to go there.
