The simple fact is people discriminate every day. Discrimination is actually necessary for survival because of scarcity. I only have so much income so I have to discriminate as to what I buy. Landlords only have so much tenement housing so they have to discriminate as to who gets it. Employers can only offer so many positions and remain open, so they discriminate based on merits of applicants. Colleges can only take so many students with their resources currently available so they have to discriminate. DEI requirements force schools, jobs and landlords to discriminate based on race, ethnicity, gender and sexual preferences (I refuse to say “orientation” because that implies there is no possibility of a gay man leaving that lifestyle when it is possible) instead of merit. The result is more racism in both directions (institutionalized against certain races and grassroots resentment from said races) sexism, hetero and homophobia, and xenophobia.
