I agree with you completely. If you have a good enough story, people won't care if it's animated or not. Animation is a very expensive and inefficient way to make movies. Using traditional animation, it took Disney four to ten years to make a movie that took less than 90 minutes to watch. Using live-action, you could make a movie with a running time of three or four hours in a few months or even weeks, if you're smart enough.
Everyone knows what they want, but not very many people take the time to really think about what it takes to make they want, or how what they want might make things better or worse. They're like Veruca Salt in Willy Wonka and the Choxolate Factory, who said "I don't care how, I want it now!" I'm not like Veruca Salt. I don't demand things from people if it would be too much trouble for them. If you're impossible to please, people are eventually going to stop trying, and you'll end up all alone.
So I completely understand why not only Disney, but all movie studios have switched from 2D traditional animation to 3D computer animation. Virtually all bosses appreciate it when you can get more done in a shorter timeframe and at a lower cost, with more impressive results in the end. Too bad these 3D CGI haters don't see it that way.
