in a perfect world, pride flags should be unnecessary- they are merely a talisman for bigotry, and if we were truly accepting we would disregard these and treat a queer person normally (a trans woman is a woman, a gay person is still a person). Just because of their relation juxtaposed to sexual organs, they still are basic humans. think of America's flag. it originally was rebellion, a way to tell Great Britain "we are not your commonwealth, we are our own power. equals to you." a pride flag traditionally has the same effect; matter of fact, it's all pride flags. every country. nazis? used a pride flag. fr*nce? pride flag. if we truly normalize something, we don't need indication. in 1916, a German miner in the US was wrapped in a German flag and torched. he was considered to be not normal, because he was German. today, however, we wouldn't associate a "normal" German man with such a flag. so why must we label a transgender person, or brand them with a flag? how are they below a white cis man, who needs no flag to be himself? | image tagged in food for thought, lgbtq, gay pride flag, flags | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

I agree with the message, but I personally just like being able to represent me. I think it’s nice to have a symbol for different people. :)

Naur, I was just taught “if ur not a straight homophobic anti-furry/therian who is under a specific weight, prepare to get bullied” I like my ketchup labels. I consume so much ketchup I pretty much am ketchup so I can still use labels.

People are people, but people often choose to label themselves. There's nationality, ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, gender, romantic orientation, sexual orientation, etc. People labeling themselves isn't just an LGBTQ+ thing, it's a human thing. Labels are an easy way to describe who we are to others.

i feel then labels can be normal or they can add to an issue.

Labels are quite helpful with explaining ideas and who we are very quickly. Because it's a thing the majority of the world does, it's quite normal for individuals to choose to label themselves. I fail to see how it's an issue. Even if it's a label you find unsavory, you should, in theory, be glad it exists so you can make an educated opinion about whether you want to stay away from that person.

which is what i was saying.
i see benefit, but i believe youve changed the subject in some way and therefore both of us are confused.

The current subject is people labeling themselves. I said I don't see how it's an issue or how it adds to an issue, and that is a very normal thing that people do.

i suppose its the labels being worn as a badge that is the problem.

I kind of think pride flags are nice to have, because if it weren't for the labels I go by like "genderfluid" I would still be stuck trying to find a way to understand how I feel about my gender or my sexuality. those flags saved me a lot of confusion, because I was able to find a category that I related to and that help me get to know myself better.

like i told silverbox, just keep a couple. i dont even know how anyone needs more than two labels.

my belief is if you truly want it working for it would be more satisfying. dont have a wall full of them or hveave an outfit dedicated to it. just make your gender obvious and treat your sexuality like you treat sex.

this may sound rude, but my thought process is this:
"im gay" "and im your platonic friend"
"im a trans woman" "yes, i see that youre a woman"
amab and afab to me dont mean shit once youve already had your hormones.

breasts are the best. better than crest for your tooth or the beating of king kong's chest. save yourself for the rest lest a breast be dest-ined to come into contact with your cast, in other words your face when a boob makes your heart race.

boom.

in a utopia we would have gender only discussed by philosophers and arranged like a political compass and you just say your quadrant and everyone is they/them

The American flag is all over the place in the USA, though. It's part of everyday life and no longer an act of rebellion. The American flag has become normalized. Hanging a Pride flag should be normal too.

It's up to each LGBTQ+ person how much or how little they want to be part of the community as well as how much or how little they want to display that they are part of it. It's a personal choice and neither way is wrong.

The American flag has special meaning because it is a way of showing that democracy was an effective means of government, leading to countries like France to try to do the same thing. It was the product of the hard work of the millions of people who worked and fought hard in the American Revolution.

In my opinion, pride flags are only used so people can feel proud about something they had absolutely no say in. Being gay or trans is an immutable characteristic, and it's not something you worked hard for, just something about you

this too is true, which separates it from the american flag
my original oint was that one shouldnt wrap themself in a flag to be part of something. a bearded man wrapped in an american flag is not always a patriot. thats by his merit and personal beliefs. a trans person is trans by their body. people who put more effort in (not drop more money; but rather work) look more like their preferred gender. a flag is an easy way out, an avenue by which they can move more easily. i have no statistic, but im sure ive seen more self doubt and anxiety in.those who buy flags rather than exercise to get their body just right. also, some of these people are a bit excessive on the flags, which screams "IM TRANS GUYS" rather than says "I'm male/female". it can be fun, or it can be compensation that hardly works beyond a superficial level.

to fel good, you need not to spend but to work. ironically thats the difference between communism or anarchy, political ideaologies ive seen many lgbtq people romanticize, and capitalism. to feel good by spending is very superficial and bland. ask anyone mature.

true. however i note how its often treated as a necessity. and i should agree that in a benign group of people, flags should be free.

wait. did i subcontiously do this when i gave up renwing the thought of my sexuality and gender?
i feel like you have a good point ("slight" bias because i have been living by it). time to spread this idea more than the pathogen that has made my body its vessel.
