God is LORD of the universe, of all creation to be sure, but Adam was given dominion over the earth. When he sinned, he gave his dominion away to the one that hates us the most. It is often said that we are created in the image of God. Adam, along with Eve, were indeed created in the image of God: of primary importance in that is soul, their essence, connected directly to God. That incredible bond was broken, savagely torn, when Adam sinned. After, the Bible tells us that Adam's sons were born in his image. We mirror the brokenness of Adam, not the perfection of God. God is, of course, still in charge of His story, as can be seen by the many fulfilled prophecies, but the serpent is able to wreak havoc upon the earth and humanity.
