Hope for bipartisan democracy with the guy who rebranded the Republican Party into a cult centered around him?
Trump does not hide behind the Republican nor any other party. He switches from one to the other in order to optimize self-promotion. He doesn't hide behind them, he flashes them for the sake of image. He doesn't abide by anything they stand for unless it can be exploited to increase his popularity and fire up his base for a more fevered allegiance.
Just look at how he flip flops. Take abortion. He was always for it his whole life, then was against it when he ran for president. Couple of months ago he bragged that he killed abortion, then days later he said it was up to the states to decide. Then he was for IVF because, of course, the people that utilize it happen to be monied. Can't upset his rich donors.
Trump basically goes with the wind, at least that which blows the most fire. The more incendiary, the better, as anger is what has always fueled him since youth. He was more civil years ago when it suited his political ambitions. When he realized there was an audience with an appetite for his more vitriolic base impulses, he went for it as the civilized approach had gotten him nowhere.
