Smith prosecuted former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell to keep him from running for reelection. Smith achieved a conviction. But eventually that conviction was overturned by a unanimous decision in the Supreme Court. SCOTUS basically said Smith mangled the law in a way it wasn’t supposed to be applied.
