In Texas, rattlesnakes are so overhunted that the survivors have been showing signs of evolution in that the descendants of the survivors are much less likely to shake their rattles, if at all, when frightened. The sound is the chief way of locating them for killing.
Rattlesnakes not shaking their rattles because Texans are wiping them out. For boots. Or just for the heck of it.
