I know. I live on Pinterest when I'm not here or watching music videos. I make everything! Whether there are instructions or not! It may take me a while and I'll undo and redo much of whatever it is until I get it right. lol. You can make ANYTHING that has been made and more!

Some of the food tastes better but it all tastes different since we don't use preservatives and chemicals when we make stuff ourselves. You want a challenge? Follow a Julia Childs recipe. Good grief! It's all wine, cream and butter in 87 hard to follow steps! Lol. It's good if you like rich food but for me ... it's always the challenge. Nobody in my house eats that stuff but it occupied my mind for hours.

I build stuff too. I have a saying, "Buy it or build it". It's ALWAYS cheaper, and more satisfying, when you build, or make, it yourself. My hubby has tools but I have TOOLS! The mitre saw, table saw, scroll saws... all the saws actually, the lathe and drill press are mine. I got my drill press from my grandfather. lol. Nobody wanted it then but they all want it now. Nope. It and his WWII hand grenade are mine!

My grandparents taught me survival skills. (what my parents taught me enhanced my survival skills) She taught me gardening, canning and sewing. I taught myself sign language, painting, macrame, ceramics (I have an old kiln) and how to make the things I wanted but could never afford. I can do just about anything except math! Drives hubby crazy because I hate tape measures so I "eyeball it" and get it right every time! Right now, I'm writing a book and making my own paper... out of books I've cut up. Lol. I get bored. What can I say? I'm naturally hyper when the mood strikes. OMG, you don't want to be near me if I have any caffeine. Rofl! I don't drink caffeine ... ever!

I forgot to add that I love to cook. I collect cookbooks but Julia Child's is way too complicated. She is fun to watch but not read. Did you know she was a spy? Do you raise bees? I think it's important but have not tried it.

I started to do the honey thing but I was afraid I'd screw it up and kill the bees so I just grow tons of flowers. My yard is covered in bees, butterflies and bugs all summer. Lots of bulbs come up in the spring too.

It seems like I remember hearing she was a spy. It takes forever to make some of her recipes but you only do it her way once... for fun... to prove you can. But then you realize you can make the same thing in four steps and cut Julia's way out. Lol. Hubby makes two things. One is a green bean casserole that takes him hours to make. It's fun watching him work his bum off on a green bean casserole. I can recreate it in 20 minutes... without the oven! Lol. It's the exact same ingredients. Tastes the same. I just cut out all the wasted time steps like bake it in the oven for an hour. It's already hot. It bakes just to melt the cheese. I can accomplish that in the microwave.

Don't get me wrong. I still love spending a day, or a week, cooking something. I LOVE baking sourdough bread ... but none of us eat it. It smells great though.

Have you ever had beinets from New Orleans? Use the sour dough for them. Yum!

I actually loved Louisiana when I was a kid. Uncle Charlie lived there. I have many fond memories of New Orleans. Saw my first sea flea there. It's funny because every now and again people still tell me I sound southern but I can't hear it unless I say New Orleans the correct way. Lol. "Naw Lens"

Where I am now Gulf Shores is the closest salt water to me... 16 hours away. I can't, or won't, ever go back to Galveston so every few years we go down just so I can stand in the water for half an hour soaking up some salt.

It breaks my heart how they destroyed the Gulf. It's like going to a new cemetery where a great forest once stood. I ran up and down the Gulf coast as a kid and it was magical! The water wasn't choppy, you could literally walk a quarter mile out and the water would still be shallow. Tidal pools, shells, crabs, sharks and jellyfish were everywhere. I was on the pier one day and all of a sudden all the fishermen started catching baby hammerheads. A mother gave birth under the pier and the babies immediately found the food on the lines. I looked over at all the people swimming while all this was happening and yelled, "Shark". That was before Jaws and nobody listened. Kind of scared me. I thought for sure I was going to watch someone get eaten. lol. One fisherman put his baby in a cooler and he let me touch it. He was leaving and said he was going to take it to an aquarium or a vet or somewhere so it could be saved. It was an amazing day.

Thanks for the great flashbacks my dear friend. It's a crap shoot with me whether I'll remember something good or something bad when I reminisce. This was a really really good flashback. Thank you. 🌹

I like your flashback stories! I can picture them in my mind. But...what is a sea flea? I liked it up and there were lots of different photos. Why do you remember a sea flea? And what do you mean they ruined the Gulf?

That offshore explosion that leaked in the Gulf killed everything. They said they cleaned up the Gulf after but it was already too late. Last time I was in Galveston was when my mom died 8 1/2 years ago and I could still smell the oil. No tidal pools or shells left. No life in the water. No nothing. Just jellyfish and smelly ruined water.

A sea flea? When I was told there were sea fleas I thought I was being lied to. I didn't believe they were real.
I remember the man that showed them to me fell in the water when he was pointing them out and he kinda freaked out because he was then, covered in sea fleas. All I ever saw was what I considered water bugs skimming the top of the water but... I was afraid of sea fleas from then on. He was covered in bites when he got out.

I remember the Gulf oil leak now. I thought you were referring to something more current. So, after all that time, it still stinks like oil & is dead? Why hasn't this been used for more than Dawn dish soap ads? That's horrible! That just adds another issue to my list of causes to support.

A sea flea seems kind of inconsequential for a young person to remember. Why did it stick in your memory? There's got to be a story behind it.

We definitely have lots in common. I have lots of tools...men have been jealous. I like building things. The last was a wonderful chicken coop for all weather...even a glasses in front porch so they could get sunlight even in bad weather. I also built a cat house for winter...didn't want to see any more stray cats frozen in my yard. My neighbor had mousers, overbred them, underfed them. it was horrible. Now, I have 3 rescues from her strays and they are gorgeous! I also have a dog. I love animals. My gram taught me how to grow and preserve the harvest. I've always wanted to make paper.

Making paper is way easier than it looks. I'll get bored with it and move on to something different soon enough.

It's kind of cool you build and have tools. Can't say I've ever met another woman that does... outside of my grandmother's. My mother couldn't cook, garden or can. She did sew though.

This time last year I had two dogs, a dove and two cats. This year I have one cat and a bunch of strays. Lost both dogs within a month of each other, one was expected, the other took my heart with her. The dove and the cat went soon after. I'll feed whatever comes along but I'm doing everything I can to not care.

I love chickens! I won't have any anymore because they're so fragile and everything wants to eat them and/or their eggs but, I could sit and watch chickens all day. Peacocks too.

I love cooking. I've had to build bookshelves for all the cookbooks I've collected. I have recipes written by people throughout my life. I always ask women what's their favorite recipe and then make them write it themselves. I treasure the cards my grandma wrote. Good food too but we're southern so there's bacon grease in EVERY recipe! lol. Not really but prolly could be substituted. lol.

Awesome...all of it except losing your pets. My two dogs died within a few months of each other. I know about them taking our hearts with them. so cool that you had to build shelves for all your cookbooks. I thought no one would understand my collection. Chickens are hilarious! I had 6. Named them all & when their colored ankle rings fell off, I swear they tested me just to see if I knew who they were without the colors to tell me. One would come and sit in my lap and tell me what was happening. One day, I had to rescue one from the rain. To test my love, another ran out just to get me to rescue her. I chased her with a broom and yelled at her "I'm not going to do this every time! So you better learn now!"... instead, I built them a glassed in porch 😋
