You think the price of gas is too high? It's half what it cost in other country, thanks the US subsidies. The the reason initially was to develop the infrastructure when it was a new industry, but it's been over a century, and they don't need any assistance with funding anymore.
Same with food, heavily subsidized because of the Dust Bowl.
Except last I heard, the Dust Bowl is over.
But Americans like food cheap, that's how 2/3 became overweight. Sure they may whine about current prices, but they're still a heckuva lot cheaper than they should be, and consumers are a heckuva lot fatter than they should be. Plus 40% of food ends up getting thrown out. And it would be really costly for real real if that's 40% did not cost less to buy than it cost to produce.
