I Slammed Doors, Broke Plates, Threw Footballs, Bounced Basketballs, Hit Golf Balls And Banged Pots & Pans Too. Aww Memories

I Slammed Doors, Broke Plates, Threw Footballs, Bounced Basketballs, Hit Golf Balls And Banged Pots & Pans Too. Aww Memories | That's Life; Most of it he believed me but when I told him toilet paper and chewing jello make sounds he, most decidedly, did NOT believe me. We laughed.
It was hilarious!
Great day; I have a deaf son and when he was very young I realized,
Uuh Duh,
he didn't know everything makes a sound. So one day I gathered a sample of just about everything I could find and sat him down in front of it all; I picked one thing up at a time, wiggled it or rubbed it together or crinkled it up or chewed it (yes food makes different sounds) and said, "This makes a sound" and I'd describe the sound as best as I could; It wasn't easy. I don't see you describing what rain fall sounds like vs snow fall ... to someone that can't hear
Yeah, no. Not as easy as it sounds

I studies ASL because I wanted to be a speech therapist or deaf ed teacher. I like your story. Especially about him not being fooled about toilet paper and jello. You were clever!

Thank you so much. My son changed my life for the better. It was hard, of course, because he was so very sick when he was a baby, but I wouldn't change a thing.

If you are still interested in ASL but didn't become a teacher ... you could be a ASL interpreter. They're always in high demand.

I tried some courses... Difficult. But maybe I could try again. It's a fun language because I think in pictures and it feels like painting words, you know?

I taught myself sign language in second grade and just kept building on it. Then ... I grew up and had a deaf baby. I LOVE that story! It's true. I'm not making it up.

It's about repetition. I used music. I'd learn the signs for the lyrics and sign songs. That and I had a deaf son... lol.

Interpreters get paid a lot and I'm not kidding about the demand. There are never enough interpreters. If you keep at it you'll learn it. It's not as hard as you think. It's like everything else. Keep at it and it gets easier.
