We live in a country where we ship off our elderly to dying facilities, so loneliness and poor care can speed them along. Strangely enough, long after they are dead and buried, they still manage to vote straight dim tickets.

My wife was a scout leader before I left the military, and we moved home. Once a month they would visit old folk's homes, I usually went with them. It was heart breaking just to see the residents struggle just to touch a child's face. Everyone looked forward to the visits and the staff would tell us which residents hadn't had a family visitor in years, so we would focus on them. I don't know if scouts still do those types of visits, but I hope so.

Old age is not for wimps. Unfortunately old age comes for everyone regardless of personality type or circumstances -- barring a premature arrival of the big 'D' himself. My mother mentally died around age ninety, but unfortunately for her she physically lived another two years after that in an 'assisted living facility' wherein she conversed with ghosts that she thought were living people while her own family members were dismissed by her as hallucinations. I got nowhere to go with this. Just sharing.

I watched my father slowly die, he talked to angels. I could hear his side of the conversation. He kept reaching up and asking for them to hurry. He did die and return twice, each time he told us about all the people he met, and told him it wasn't his time, go back. Dad was terminal for years, in and out of hospitals and ER's. I get my bull headed ways from him.

Like in your case everyone blamed hallucinations, at least when others could hear. Most told me they believed after years of seeing the same things, they would never admit it to each other. I had an EMT tell me she never saved anyone that smiled and reached up, she could only save people that looked scared and screamed in fear. She was 100% convinced dying people could see their next home.

Thanks for sharing, I returned the favor because I do care, and I think people need to hear about what comes next.
