My father was a carpenter from Arkansas, across the river from Tennessee. Around 1954-5 he was hired to work on a big construction site in Memphis with with many people he didn't know. This included a young truck driver who had recorded
a couple of songs that became local hits. Now, dad was a fan of good old-fashioned country/western music & didn't care much for this new noisy rock-and-roll stuff. So he had no idea how big rock was going to get, nor did he imagine
that this kid named Elvis Presley would become
the most famous musician in the world.
