PBS’ Judy Woodruff was forced to apologize for comments she made live on air Monday during the network’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention about a now-debunked conversation between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The accusation has real-world implications and is a sneaky way to backhandedly suggest that President Trump may have violated the Logan Act.

Woodruff cited a story “she read in Axios and Reuters” suggesting that President Trump had allegedly been encouraging Prime Minister Netanyahu to delay peace talks until after the U.S. election in the belief that a deal could help Harris’ campaign.

During the live PBS roundtable, Woodruff stated, “The reporting is that former President Trump is on the phone with the prime minister of Israel, urging him not to cut a deal right now because it’s believed that would help the Harris campaign.”

“Who knows whether that will come about or not, but I have to think that the Harris campaign would like for President Biden to do what presidents do, which is work on that one,” she added.

By Monday night, when she floated the false story, the rumors she cited had already been debunked for four days.

Both Axios and Reuters updated their original stories, within 24 hours of publishing, acknowledging both sides deny the conversation ever occurred.

As soon as Woodruff made the false claim, calls for her to provide sources flooded in.

Newsmax’s Greta Van Susteren called Woodruff out, saying, “My former colleague @JudyWoodruff knows better than to make such an electrifying statement about Trump and Netanyahu and not source…”

“if it is true, then just source it…we can all deal w/ the truth..not to source is just gossip and not journalism..it is national enquirer.”

Well if Netanyahu denied it, then, of course, we have to believe him because telling the truth is his business. Trump denied it too, so now it's doubly true. Putin can vouch for him, and Kim is willing to testify in court on his behalf. Netanyahu never had any connection with Hamas. That quote was just a joke, taken from an open mic night comedy hour at his favorite pub. He didn't assassinate any Iranian consulate officials in Syria, nuclear scientists in Iran, or anywhere else in Iran. He hasn't had 39,000 Palestinians slaughtered either. We know that's fake Hamas propaganda.

Reagan didn't trade coke for arms to buy coke to buy arms to buy coke to start the Crack Epidemic noorasty Ayatollah Khomeini to hold the hostages till he got inaugurated.
Nixon was not a crook, and those aluminum irrigation tubes spotted on an Iraqi farm were legit atomic bombs.

Oh, and Hitler too, he didn't kill nobody. Those pictures were fake.

And not a single person in India died under British rule. That's why they have over a billion people, literally nobody died. Ever. They're immortal. Because of the English.

Half of Iran didn't die during World War I so that the Brits can have their pistachios either.

And we didn't kill any Native Americans, they tried to kill us. Columbus only tried to teach to teach them Spanish, and that's how they rewarded him, with a bad reputation that still lingers to this very day.

Eh .... This isn't solely about Netanyahu denying that a phone call was made.

1. Two sources (according to Axios) said a phone call took place.

2. One of the sources said the alleged phone call was intended for trump to encourage Netanyahu to take the [ceasefire] deal but the source was not 100% sure what was said.

3. Then another reporter from PBS read that^ story and claimed that almost the exact opposite "was being reported".

They said that it was being reported by Axios and Reuters that the alleged phone call was trump specifically telling Netanyahu to "not take the deal yet" for political reasons (because it could help Kamala Harris).

But there is no evidence that^ was specifically said on the alleged phone call. And that was not what was being reported by Axios nor Reuters, so it is unclear where the PBS reporter got that information.

But I could be wrong.

I have not heard anything about the other source who told Axios a phone call had been placed. Maybe there is a recording somewhere of the alleged conversation, idk.

But again... as far as I know...... currently there is no evidence that trump told him to delay a ceasefire until after the election.

If the shoe was on the other foot, the OP meme would qualify for my stock maga conspiracy guy meme. ( for memes that either have already been debunked or that there is no evidence of.)

My bad.

When I looked it up 2 nights ago, the article offerings were a bit skimpy, I shoulda known it was a bit premature to run with it.

And the PBS reporter who brought it up acknowledged that they got the story wrong.

Yes I agree. Trump is a complete scumbag, a notorious liar, and a convicted felon. It is crazy to think the religious right might actually vote for that guy.

But...... I can't let you slide on fake news just because we agree politically.
