In my 28-year working for the VA I saw many examples of "Stolen Valor." Tim Walz's 24-years of honorable service may not have included actual combat but is more than most people have sacrificed. He stole nothing and earned the admiration of many.
BY DESIGN, MANY ACTIVE-DUTY PERSONNEL SERVE "BEHIND THE LINES."; IN WWII AND THE KOREAN WAR ABOUT 40% DID NOT SERVE IN WAR-ZONES. IN THE VIETNAM-ERA IT WAS 65%. IN THE WAR ON TERROR 2001-TODAY SUPPORT PERSONNEL NUMBERS ARE A BIT HIGHER. ALMOST ALL PEOPLE SERVING IN "REAR LINES" ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE SUCCESS OF FRONT-LINE COMBATANTS.
