I think they followed the path of least resistance, which has become the path of most resistance now. They desired to be & became the status quo. Trump took a tire iron to the whole incestuous bunch of them, AFTER attempting a compromise.

Again they brought it on themselves. But it is offending that democrats thought they could lower the standards of the country with no pushback. Democrats like to say they're bipartisan but unfortunately most of their voting practices don't show that.

It is effective. They push 100 miles in every direction, then only lose half in a clawback. Sometimes when there is a Uniparty situation (wink wink) there is ZERO clawback for a time. Check & balance each day, week, month, year or decade, it always happens, but is DRAMATIC in times like this. A constant Centrist negotiation would be much more desirable.
But for GREED !

I actually feel like my city was the test city for a lot of these progressive policies, so our standard of living has declined, although there is quite a bit of pushback, nothing seems to be done. And you're absolutely right it's due to GREED and wanting to put their special interests before the best interest of the city.

And I'm not sure the left knows what Centrist is anymore.
