Whenever I hear someone say we have a broken immigration system, I know immediately what their “fix” is: amnesty for millions of people who broke our laws and have no respect for us as a nation while thumbing their noses at those waiting to get here in the prescribed legal procedure. The reason we made it difficult to immigrate here is to ensure that those we receive as new citizens actually want to come and will abide by our laws, assimilating into our society. This f someone won’t learn our language and assimilate how do we know they won’t side with our adversaries in the unlikely event of foreign invasion? Even Mexico requires people coming to fulfill requirements — one being to have a skill in demand like teaching English, or to start a business that will employ at least one Mexican citizen and add to their economy.
