If Imgflip built the code, how much should it cost for a user to restore a deleted account?

The idea of getting accounts back sounds good but I don’t see how it could work

I can see usernames for deleted accounts in certain places.

Here's how it could work. Imgflip builds code, you click on a link to get to a new form, enter the email used to create the account, pay a fee, account restored. As long as the corresponding email account works and the user can access the email account, I think it's viable.

my question is, why would you have to pay a fee? That means it would cost money if your account is deleted by a hacker or by accident, and that's just unfair.

I guess a fair amount of cash to restore an account could be so.
However, with everyone mostly being in different zones of the world, whats the fairest prize?

The fee should be nominal, and cover whatever costs are involved... But does the information actually exist? There's a LOT of old posts still on this site - by this "anonymous" character... is there some hidden marker, to straighten it all out? Could you restore all of the featured, unfeatured, votes and comments? It would be a miracle if that could be done... And a lot of bandwidth on the servers, I'd imagine.

Perhaps some after-deletion reconstruction could occur, using the wayback machine, if not... But that sounds labor intensive... Self-deletion is never the way to go. Just walk away, if that's how you feel. You can always change your mind, or log back in and look around at your remaining peeps, etc., that way.

There would have to be some amount of verification required for sure, and a way to one on one communicate with a site mod, more than likely some kind of form that you would have to fill out. Verification could possibly be as easy as providing the email, username, and password, but then again that might not be enough due to people potentially sharing their passwords or being hacked. I’m sure you guys have a way of IP banning in place already, so perhaps if their IP address is the same or in a similar area that could help with verification. I have no clue if you do have access to that stuff though, as I am not a website developer or someone familiar with that sorta stuff. You could definitely charge for that kind of service, but if you overshoot the pricing it may never be used be anyone. On the other hand though, a payed feature like this that’s going to take a significant amount of labor and coding should probably be able to pay for itself, or at least be net neutral so you can’t really low ball it either. While 20 or so US dollars sounds pretty reasonable to me, most of the user base does seem to be minors or at the very least young adults, so 20 may be a little high. However I’m sure a majority of the user base are old enough to work and have an income, so it might not matter all that much.

Same I figured about pricing, 20 may be high for some, but on the other hand, less might make it easier for some to delete their accounts figuring they can always retrieve them, then never get around to doing it. Some rage quit, but if they do that every other month, something like 10 seems alright enough at first but then naah as it adds up. 20 might give them cause to think it through.

That's because members shouldn't delete their account. This way they won't have to complain when they come back to their now deleted account and are mystified as to why the account that they deleted is deleted and for some strange reason remains deleted despite the fact that they changed their mind about deleting it and now wish that the account they deleted is no longer deleted.

By not deleting it, it won't cost a thing to restore it, as they wouldn't have deleted it.

I feel bad for RayCat, and as you know, I had actually missed him, and brought him up. I'm also a fan of his other character accounts. They were gem. Dude literally made his own templates for them. Not downloaded, but literally altered images to suit a character, and skillfully. That's art. That's imgflip history.

By getting tired of an account, or figuring it ain't worth keeping, they're not depriving themselves, they're depriving others. Then they come back a year later with regret because they lost the three and a half million points that went with it, as one certain member who came back wishing he could buy his account back AND the name said a couple of years ago. How sad, he lost his 3.5 million. His account should be restored for some number. Where is he now with his newest account? Did he delete that too? They all do.

Sorry, but suicide doesn't come with a satisfaction guaranteed refund.

Oh, and meanwhile, long-term users going back near a decade and in the top 50 get banned from commenting because of all the flags they got from others getting miffed about them saying some mean things about Trump.

(I was once advised by someone privy to some inside info to retire an account, or at least use another for some time, because it too was about to get banned. Completely. Deleted. Months after it introduced translucent writing to this site. Thanx, flip!)

Yet others - including those who flagged them - continue with the constant insults and often nothing but. Just scroll down, there's a whole convo of such. If those posts were by non-Trumpers in Politics, they would have been deleted. And as you can see from the back and forth below, these are all a bunch of underage kids calling each other pedo like it was confetti. What are they molesting, kids in pre-K? You can't insult Cult 45 but you can call another child a child molester? With impunity?
