As far as political parties go…
They’re all scratching each other’s back, to retain their power money control. Practically speaking, there are 2 parties, because that’s what the market will bear. When was the last time you saw a Libertarian President?
However, within the parties, there are certainly delineations defining how far from center they lean. Leftists & Progressives don’t lean. They’ve fallen over and tumbled to the left. But they’re still left, therefore, Democrat

democrats are not leftist.
