An art trading game that happens during July. There are two teams, and whichever team gains the most paints through attacks by the end of the month is the winner. “Attacking” means you draw someone else’s character.

What software do you use?

I use ProCreate on an iPad Pro.

bro i use friggin SumoPaint on a tablet-attached computer

That's propably the reason your art looks astronomically better than mine.

Another reason might be that I rush mine.

Drawing software doesn’t matter, I used a mousepad and a school-issued chromebook for years. What’s important is practice, I practice every day, and I draw for myself, not for other people. Don’t compare yourself to anybody else, art is fluid and subjective, and you’ll only get happier with your art every time you practice.

How shall I grow and learn techniques if not through the work of others?

Comparison is the thief of joy, and I have two different ways I try to improve my art.

One way, set a timer. I do these five minute sketches at work sometimes, and I try to draw a character as detailed as possible within the time limit. Setting time limits helps you figure out what works well and what doesn’t as far as posing and facial expression.

Another thing I use, multiple medias. While I primarily post my digital art here, I also paint, use oil pastels, and markers too. All of those require different skills, but learning lots of different skills helps bring a creative mindset to anything you make.

You raise good points, however I won't be drawing on a computer with an AMD Ceramic 386 processor and 1024KB of RAM. RAM is a big limitation.
