I don't adhere to extremist ideologies like Marxism or even "democratic socialism" and I don't think getting rid of the capitalist system and replacing it with socialism is any sort of solution to anything. I just think libertarians are really self-contrdictory when they say that capitalism is why we have all the things we buy but also claim America "doesn't have capitalism" I mean you cannot call America "not capitalist" when it clearly has a market full of private companies making and selling products that we all buy. In fact I find it ironic how they ridicule socialists for claiming Venezuela "isn't true socialism" those libertarians sound just like those socialists when they make no true scotsman fallacies about capitalism. One criticism I have about the socialist left is that they spend to much time advocating for socialism but they don't seem to know what socialism actually us and get their terms wrong. When the American left advocate for "socialism" they are actually advocating for social welfare programs in the capitalist system such as universal healthcare, parental leave, unemployment insurance, etc. even those things aren't the same thing as Marxist socialism, they are as I said social welfare programs within the capitalist system, they don't have their terms right. Your meme you just posted does also make a point, they reason why the American left advocate for such welfare programs so they can spend their government handouts on capitalist products. Many on the socialist left spend a lot of time criticizing the capitalist system and consumerism but they still enjoy consumerism as much as anyone else and don't realize it would be very hard for them to live without being able to buy the products the capitalist system produces.

I find it ironic when people type "capitalism sucks" on their iPhone 14 housed in it's aftermarket purchased protective case and connected to the internet via their paid subscription data service

I would think that the first step in renouncing capitalism would be to cease participating in consumerism.

You are correct in stating, and I am paraphrasing, capitalism creates goods and services that are hard to say no to because they are easily accessible and make one comfortable.

Capitalism keeps the "livestock" easily controlled by virtue of the creature comforts it provides.

In socialism, I think, everyone wants to be the recipient while no one wants to be the provider.

And you are correct again in having stated that social welfare is not the same as socialism.

However, non contributory social welfare programs, in my opinion, create larger problems than they solve.

There are also some libertarians that are just as hypocritical. There are libertarians who live off government benefits despite railing against government. Ayn Rand was such a libertarian, she lived off social security and Medicare in her old age. I also know a guy who claims to be an anti-tax libertarian but he lives off welfare benefits and lives in a subsidized housing unit. He also refuses to get a job for that would affect his eligibility for his welfare and he blows his welfare check on booze. He is also trying to come up with some extra money to buy a train ticket so he can visit his sick, dying mother who lives on the other side of the country, he was offered a job by another guy I know but he refused the job for he simply just too lazy. It also pisses me off how he refuses to work because this recent job is in construction and he is highly skilled that trade.

Social security is a contribution based return of money garnished from one's wages. and you pay an insurance premium for Medicare.

The other guy sounds like a bum.
