so that anakin would try to jump over him

in order for him to slice his legs?

Simple: he IS the high ground

Technically he defeated Anakin with the low ground as Anakin did the SAME thing obi wan did so therefore he predicted it

The same thing was with obi wan killing maul and making him a sandwhich
