I agree. For all that Jimmy Carter was a rank incompetent as president -- aside from the Camp David Peace Accords; that is -- his heart was pure. He cared and he genuinely tried his best. It's just that he had the common sense of a panda; meaning none at all. The odd thing about that being that he had been the engineering officer on a nuclear submarine. Common sense was supposed to come with the position.

CH, you finally said something I mostly agree with! Not a great president. Had I registered to vote on time in 1980 I would not have supported him. Sure, he was bright, but it's a complicated job. His skill set perhaps was not quite acute enough for the big office. Having said that, I voted for W twice, but we were not flourishing out the wazoo during those years either. Both of them (W and Carter) didn't really quite seem up to the task.
