Yes, but since in reality this is a leftist show trial -- Soviet Union style -- with the verdict probably pre-determined, the prosecutor is going for maximum sensationalism and the leftist judge is happy to permit it.
A guilty verdict from a blatantly Dem Party stacked jury of open Trump-haters will be overturned on appeal, obviously; but the Dem Party's leadership hopes to make a political meal from the verdict first. That's all there is to this and the other Trump trials as well.
