Just get global pre-check, global re-entry, or TSA pre-check... whatever they're called. Yes, it's a hassle, but this isn't going to change any time soon. Being pre-screened like that saves a ton of time at the airport. Yes, it should not be necessary.

It’s definitely an inconvenience, yeah, but remember, we weren’t at war before 9/11 and look what happened. And with the generation that can recall the exact moment of where they were when it happened in power, there’s no chance those protections are going to be rolled back anytime soon

If we’ve eased up in fighting foreign terrorism, it does make you wonder who our government thinks is the real enemy.

If we are fortunate enough to have Trump as our POTUS again, we will ease back down on fighting foreign terrorists (at least for four more years!) instead of what Bribe-em has done, which is green light a lot of that thru policy and disgustingly, thru cash that he's freed up for Iran.

It’s not because of that, it’s because if they rolled back those protections, it’d be widely unpopular. Do people like going through TSA? No, but with the memories of 9/11, no one is going to be happy to see those preventative measures gone

It can’t be proven their measures have prevented anything. Maybe everyone carrying cell phones prevents it.

It's gonna sound like I'm in favor of these measures, even though I am not. I've always tried to reconcile this extra airport "security" with actual freedoms as stated in the Constitution. Meaning are my freedoms under assault here, or am I just whining about a significant inconvenience?

Still, we can't prove a counter-factual. If it never happened because the terrorists didn't try, we have no way to know if it was the security measures or something else. And that even assumes that they would have otherwise tried something, which we don't even know. We think short term, as in a few years at most, while they think long term, decades or even centuries.

They could be planning something that will hit us as hard as 9/11 did, but has nothing to do with airports. Sadly, an open border with so many military age males streaming into the country, does not give me a feeling of security, no matter what happens at the airport.

Fair point, but it’s common belief that these measures prevent terrorism through commercial airplanes. And while that doesn’t prove it works, it does mean that people would feel far less safe on an airplane. And that would definitely negatively affect said industry as a consequence, which is definitely not needed in this economy

It almost sounds like people, as they often do, want it both ways. We want to feel secure, but we don't want to be bothered by the hassle. Possibly the dreaded no win scenario.

Yep. The opposite of security is convenience, after all

It was once common belief the earth is flat and bloodletting cured disease.

Like I said, it’s not proof that it works, but it gives people peace of mind. And your analogy doesn’t exactly work, as airport security doesn’t do anyone active harm like bloodletting did

If you don’t mind people groping you

Speaking for myself, I don't mind being groped. I'd prefer that it be Mrs. Ma-Deuce, but that's just me. 🤣

And as much as I don't like security measures that *seem* to be unnecessary, it would probably be in our own best interest to remember that our enemy thinks long term for their strategy. To many, 25 years is so long that they don't remember (and maybe don't care) any more about what happened on 9/11/01, but to muslim terrorists, that's the blink of an eye. They're in it for the long haul.
