Ngl Nintendo is the only company actually trying different things with their consoles (DS duel screen feature, Wii remote games that utilized the remotes moving around, 3Ds with 3D screens used for games, Wii U with the 8 player 1 console feature and separate game pad for asymmetrical/5 player games, Switch for removable controllers that attached to the system itself for portable use). It seems like they’ve at least tried to add something new for each console.

Ask Xbox and PS to do something different too then, because as far as I’m aware, the last time either of them tried something new was when Xbox rolled out Kinect for the 360 and never again. PS’s brief entries into the mobile gaming industry with PSP and PS Vita are nice but they continue to let Nintendo hold that monopoly with the only thing opposing it being the Steam Deck. I think VR is third party and they just support it.

xbox and ps are different in a way, they have all of the mainstream games and dont need something unique to carry them

nintendo always makes specialized games for unique gimmicks, without the unique gimmicks they are just a low-powered console manufacturer

Portable gaming consoles. The Steam Deck is the Switch’s only real competitor rn, the Gameboy and Gameboy Advanced went unopposed, and the DS and 3Ds were only checked by PSP (which tbh is just ok) and PS Vita (don’t know how great it is since I don’t have one). Basically, Nintendo was allowed to dominate the portable gaming market.
