Time to end the stupidity of mass incarceration

Have you watched Michael Moore's "Where to invade next?" If so, what did you think about the parts on education and prison. Your meme title implies you might agree about not putting drug users in jail. (I'm respectfully asking)

I haven't seen it -- I'll have to look out for it. In general, I'm skeptical of the way we use imprisonment in the US, especially for non-violent offenders: it rarely makes people, families or communities healthier. It also represents a massive wealth transfer (in both dollars and human potential) to big corporations in a lot of states, and I'd really like to see that capital invested elsewhere . . . especially in education, which has the power to prevent people from turning to crime in the first place.

They have privatized jails here and it seems horrible. I haven't been myself but I've known a lot who have told me the stories. They actually serve them food labelled "not fit for human consumption." I couldn't believe it. They private companies make a lot of money per inmate. There is a lot wrong with the system.

And I have no doubt investing in public schools reduces adult crime.
