A nice story. However this path leads to greater darkness for the unwary. Let me postulate an alternative thought. God, we will use the Judeo-Christian God, the supremely powerful, knowledgeable, and good extra dimensional being that spoke matter, space, and time into being, all at once. Most cosmologists acknowledge that at some point in antiquity all three started simultaneously. There must be an uncaused cause for this to happen. The 'cause' cannot already exist in an uncreated universe. This 'cause' I will henceforth title 'God'. This is not His true name, but it is more of a 'title'. This Supremely Good God created a perfect universe somewhere in the past. He created only good because that's who and what He is. He did endow His creation with the capacity of choice, for without choice we are just automatons. Those that followed God, followed the light of His truth. Those that didn't turned away from these standards. Cold and dark are more accurately defined as the lack of something. Cold is the lack of heat, hence 'absolute zero'. Darkness is the lack of light.
The absence of good is evil. Where God is absent; His standards and His direction, evil exists.
The bad news: anything or anyone that fails to follow His standards can never be allowed to live near Him in eternity. Further bad news: none of us are capable, on our own of following His standards.
The Good news: God provided a path we could follow to free us from our failures.
Let's say a man drives while intoxicated, crashes into a parked car and totals the other car. In a Court of law, he would probably be forced to pay for the crime. There would be a fine and maybe some incarceration. If someone were to pay the fine and the time, he would go free. This is the path to follow.
