I know a woman who wanted a second child but nearly died having the first one and had to suffer some extreme medical procedures to get through it. But she didn’t want her child to grow up without siblings. And she specifically avoided surrogates who were only willing because of financial desperation. I don’t think seeking out a surrogate for the second child was unreasonable or immoral. But the cartoonish stereotype people like this believe is that all women seeking surrogacy are just vain and looking to have a baby while keeping their figure, and that if they seek a surrogate overseas, it must be to exploit someone in a third world country, not to do it somewhere where the laws for it aren’t a jumbled nightmare.
