In "Kruschev Remembers," there is a story told to illustrate our over-estimate of Russian military strength during his rule. Putin's embarrassing incursion into Ukraine shows that little has changed. Russia's influence in our Hemisphere is excessive, relative to their real "global" power.

I am not Cuban, but the Brits seized our land to use to raise Wool and sold us into slavery (indentured servitude) in the new world. Time heals all wounds, and most Scots have gotten over that chapter. Fidel Castro is dead. Most Cubans would vote for a free system, if given a chance to do so. We have an opportunity to lend them our influence to give them a chance. We should put our politics aside and "Seize the Day." A high profile Republican like Marco Rubio should be empowered to negotiate to create a Cuba that is neither dominated by Russia or the US, but an equal, sovereign country. Any future treaties between us would be based on what is best for both countries, not one or the other of our political parties. It is time for Cuba and the US to end our Cold War.

Let me correct you because you have absolutely no clue about the angle you are coming from. First paragraph is completely irrelevant.

Second paragraph "Most Cubans would vote for a free system, if given a chance to do so." That is a wild assumption, clearly you do not know Cuban history (there is a lot of proudful bloodshed, do you even know what "patria o muerte" means?) and people in Cuba DO NOT get to vote (only government officials do), I don't know what that has to do with your meme, also seems irrelevant. Seems like you are trying to speak for me without having any context or argument.

"We have an opportunity to lend them our influence to give them a chance" - We always did, by invading the country with military force and overthrowing their corrupt government like U.S did in Panama taking down Noriega. Nothing peaceful about it. But the only realistic way it will ever happen.

Cuba will remain an enemy of the U.S for as long as they remain communist. You need to stop being so naive and reason from wishy washy feelings.

I don't think it is in anyone's self-interests for Cuba to "remain communist." In fact, Russia no longer has an interest in keeping it a collective. The time is right for us to push them in the right direction. The political realities in America make the need for any major policy initiatives to be bipartisan. Since a large number of Cuban Immigrants are Republican, Biden is possibly the only Democrat with a history of cross aisle dealing to start this process.

I was in the Third Grade during the "Revolution." My older brother joined the Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and I was in high school when Kennedy was shot by Castro supporter, Lee Harvey Oswald. I remember reports of Castro bleeding prisoners to death and sending their blood to North Vietnam for medical uses. Cuba has been a "bad actor" for six and a half decades. The time has come for us to help them emerge from this shadow.

"The time has come for us to help them emerge from this shadow." says who? Why do you care so much about Cuba? They have been a bad actor because Fidel, his brother and Che committed lots of cold blooded murders. The current government still support this. I mean, nothing is stopping you from grabbing a riffle and flying to Cuba or taking a boat and try to overthrow the government if you do care so much about Cuba. Which I think is BS, I do not think you give a rat's ass about the people in Cuba, you are just using Cuba to push your communist agenda in United States.

I'm not the guy who is sucking up to the lifelong communist Putin. I have long held that a day will come when the communists would no longer have any use for Cuba. When the USSR folded, they cut their subsidies. The communist Putin is distracted by his own problems. Now is the time to Free Cuba.

yeah right, you do not even believe that.

I believe it enough to suggest that a bi-partisan effort could make it so.

The cuban people in Florida been been asking for military intervension to take down Castro and liberate Cuba for decades and the democratic party been ignoring them. What makes you think that they are going to listen to a single ranting old man? Why do you care about Cuba?
