In the Oregon legislature there's a rule that a session can't
start unless a quorum of 218 representatives & 51 senators are
present. This is supposed to keep things fair, yet is being abused by the Republican minority in the state Senate. After refusing to do their job in 2019, costing Oregon over a billion dollars (and 1 of them even threatening the lives of any state police officers who would be sent
to escort him to the capitol), the people passed a referendum forbidding any
legislators with at least 10 unexcused absences from running for reelection. This year the Republicans were acting up again. Offended
by bills making it easier to access abortion, allowing healthcare
for transgender citizens & preventing illegal gun sales, they
blocked the will of the people by being absent for 6 weeks. So the
clause has been evoked & 10 Republican senators are no longer eligible
to participate in this year's election. They're throwing temper tantrums
& calling it a conspiracy, but they clearly did this to themselves.
