but, how is it in the midwest if it is located east relative to the "center" of the USA?
(i'm not american so it might just be that)

How is the Czech Republic (at the geographical center of Europe) considered “Eastern Europe” while Austria is considered “Western Europe” although Prague is further west than Vienna?

Or why is Jerusalem considered the Middle East when it is geographically the exact center of the earth?

a lot of it has to do with culture tbf, dating back to Berlin Wall times and whatnot
basically the "eastern" part (CZ, SK, PL, HU, etc.) was under Soviet/Russian occupation and these countries probably evolved similar cultures and traditions due to that, and because they were obviously more to the east they just named it Eastern Europe
(PS. i'm not a history nerd, these are just rough assumptions)
