My brother in Christ | stop beating yourself up | image tagged in my brother in christ | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
No, you are a truly awesome guy. I speak from experience when I say that self-depreciation only makes the situation worse.

(Forgive the use of a video game example here, I can't help it) In a Halo multiplayer match, you have to believe you can, regardless of your abilities. Believe you can capture the flag. Believe you can maintain control of the hill. Believe you can get that headshot. If you don't believe those things, you won't be able to succeed. If you don't believe you can capture the flag, you won't be able to get it back to your base. If you don't believe you can maintain control of the hill, it'll be taken by the enemy team. If you don't believe you can get the headshot, you'll end up getting headshot yourself.

The same thing applies here: if you don't believe you're what people say you are, you won't be able to pull out of your depression. Don't beat yourself up. It only makes things worse.

This is excellent advice. I myself use a different approach. I believe that I am such a fxckup that no matter what I try to do, I will fail. So I visualize myself failing. And every time, I fail to fail. Kind of a karmic lifehack. YMMV but it works for me. Every time I picture myself banging my head or crashing my truck or falling off a scaffold, I end up being fine. Kind of afraid what might happen if I start trying to visualize success...

Did you watch that video about givers and takers? That was me and my best friend, until I cut bait and ran the other way. Givers need to be selective about where they direct their effort.

I leave you with this quote, it stuck with me because it's relatable:

"The Helper seeks to help, because he knows what it is like to be helpless."
