God once killed 42 children for making fun of a bald person by summoning two bears to maul them.

2 Kings 2:23-24

The amount of gymnastics that apologist piece tries to pull off is, frankly, Olympic worthy.

The as-close-to-original text that we have uses two words to describe the targets of the prophet Elisha bear attack. The word for child is naar. It is used to describe Moses as he is discovered by Pharoh's daughter. It's also used by Solomon in a figurative sense. It's also used to describe a servant in their early 20s. But generally, naar is used throughout the Bible to refer to a small baby all the way up to someone in their 20s.

But the word that preceeds naar is important here. It's qatan. It's an adjective that means small. So, the exact wording is qatan naar. Small Child.

Those small children, qatan naar, were mocking Elisha for being bald. He called on God to kill them. God sent in a bear squad to maul them. Killed those kids.

But even if that apologists mental gymnastics are true, and those really were 20-somethings who were priests of a pagan god using God's name in vein did they deserve to be killed?

The same God who told Moses that 1 of the most 10 important things in the world was "Thou Shalt Not Kill." Sent in bears at the word of a guy who had his feelings hurt.

And yet you have no problem with Baal and Moloch worshipers sacrificing children and even babies(Moloch).

There is so much symbolism in the Bible... something ignorant people who hate Christianity refuse to recognize because it doesn't fit their hate narrative...

If you could point to the part where I said I was fine with that, that'd be great.

Also, Baal (or Ba'al) isn't a specific divine figure, it's a title. It's from ye olde times when it meant Lord or Owner. In the Old Testiment it's applied to several god figures. It's not a specific or singular god.

Interesting side note: classic Christian demon Beelzebub, Lord of Flies, is rooted in the word Ba'al. Specifically, Baʿal Zebub (Hebrew: בעל זבוב,) literally translated as "Fly Lord". Which was a fancy way of calling someone a piece of shit. Because flies were hovering around them all the time in the same way they hover around a pile of dung.

But if we're talking about child sacrafice, God did kill a whole bunch of kids. Like a lot. Remember that 10th Plague in Exodus? The Plague of the First Born?

Those were kids.

Are you okay with that?

What you posted is what's called an "apologist" piece. An apologist is someone who tries to 'make sense' of something controversial. Like how in this piece the author starts out with "yes, that word does mean child, but..."

And they go on to rationalize their way from Elisha cursing small children (the exact words in the Hebrew text are qatan naar, small child) with death to they were actually adults in their 20s who were blaspheming all over the place with God's name.

Which I guess makes it okay? It's okay that he cursed and God sent a bear to murder those 20 something for calling the dude bald.

Yes... I read what scholars wrote... and then I read what anti-Christians wrote... I see where both are coming from... and I must say... I believe the scholars over the anti-Christians...

God felt they deserved to be killed. God is just. End of discussion. You're not God.

Symbolism is crazy. You look like the type of person who reads most of Judges and thinks it's literally true.

Sadly, the "he gets us" ad is horrible. But likewise so is this meme taking Scripture out of context.

Read the word in context.

Please enlighten us with your profound words of wisdom and exegesis.
The context is Jesus talking about a little child he has presented before the disciples. How is my application off or out of context?
Mat 18:2 — And He called a child to Himself and set him before them,

Do you not believe those are children in the womb? If they are not children what are they?

Of course children in the womb are precious as is all life. What a silly question.

Matthew is to Israel, not the church -- Jesus is presenting Himself as their Messiah. We can learn from it of course, but only by eavesdropping, it's not written TO us, but FOR us.

That correction aside, the context of the verse is about little ones who BELIEVE in Christ. Nothing to do with the "defenseless". So yes, my point is correct, you're taking scripture out of context to make a point.

The commercial is dreadful.
Abortion is abominable, but no worse that any other sin per Scripture.

And your misuse of scripture is also bad.
