The way I see things, both the left and right misuse the term 'socialism' to describe Scandinavian countries. The left which are Bernie voters think that social welfare programs such as universal Healthcare, paid parental leave, etc. are socialism basically because they don't have their terms right. In reality the term 'socialism' refers to an economy where the means of production are owned and controlled by the workers according to Marxist theory and Scandinavian countries definitely don't have that, they are free market capitalist economies that are considered even more free-market than America, they just have strong welfare programs and the welfare programs are even privatized to an extent. The right which are libertarian ancap types inaccurately refer to Scandinavian countries and welfare programs as 'socialist' because they seem to think it is the equivalent of actual Marxist socialism and use it as red scare tactic against their opponents. A Fox News host was even moronic enough to push the notion that Denmark is a socialist hellhole going through an economic crisis like Venezuela and a Danish politician responded to her Debunking her moronic claims.
