Check history; both of their political trajectories included a violent attempt to overthrow institutions of democratic government, the use of hostile rhetoric to incite supporters and intimidate opponents, scapegoating immigrants, ethno-centric identity politics, cult of personality, alliance with and admiration for despots, rampant mendacity---the list goes on and on. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Of course, the MAGA crowd wouldn't dare make an unfounded Hitler comparison, but I'm kind of petty like that. The irony, indeed!

The nation's founders conceived the electoral college to prevent the rise of a demagogue, among other reasons. In 2016, that idea backfired. Every election cycle since 2016 has shown that the majority rejects Trump and his divide-and-conquer brand of politics. Trump appeals to people's prejudices and has remained politically viable by the Big Lie of a stolen election, much like Hitler's Stab-In-The-Back myth. I stand by the comparison.
