I came up with these characters when I was 10 at the turn of the millenium, picking them up and putting them down for the past couple of decades.
Some of the influences in middle school were The Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes. That's the "illustrated joke" and "social contract through a Calvinistic and Hobbesian lens" parts.
Of the course the action was Narnia, Redwall, Animorphs, and anything else I was watching, reading, or playing at the time.
