Different places have different views, even within the same state. A president has to be a president to ALL people in the country — not just to those in metropolitan areas. Therefore, an electoral college makes everyone know that their vote matters, but the argument of soil in red states voting is so absurd as to not be worth trying to counter: it does a good job countering itself.
