You'd have to be intentionally uninformed or obtuse not to grasp that GOP legislatures didn't just require IDs - they chose forms of ID they knew would exclude massive numbers of registered voters, and closed the offices that issue those forms of ID.

In Texas alone, that's meant purposely disenfranchising more than 500,000 registered voters - and for the benefit of those from states that aren't purposely impeding voting rights, it can take 3-4 months to get a DMV appointment in this shithole, and those appointments are often hours away from where you live.

Then we have states like Alabama where offices issuing drivers licenses are open 1-2 days PER MONTH, if they haven't been shuttered entirely, in poverty-stricken areas.

Bringing back the same I.D. you used to even register to vote in the first place is not excluding anyone. It is racists to assume that black people can't get an I.D., when almost every single black adult does have driver's license. For Democrats to insinuate that black people are not capable of passing a driving test or getting a free state I.D., exposes how truly racists Democrats are.

Here in Texas, you can register to vote either in person or online using a Social Security card as I.D.

You cannot use that same card to vote, and the state legislature has purposely shut down and restricted hours for DMV offices in areas with high percentages of minority citizens, leading to months-long backlogs for those seeking to get the ones that can be used to vote.

To be fair, Texas does have a huge problem with illegal immigration, so it makes sense why they must be more stringent with voter registration. In my state of GA, you have to show ID to register to vote (you can register by mail using your driver's license ID #) and you must also show your ID to vote. GA also provides free state I.D. cards to any legal resident. Our DMV doesn't have any backlog and you can get your driver's license or state ID card within 5 business days in the mail.

This has nothing to do with illegal immigration and everything to do with illegal voter suppression - our legislators pulled demographic information on minority populations, closing and limiting hours at DMV offices in those communities and excluding types of identification they'd be more likely to possess from the list of acceptable forms to vote.

More importantly, it's our laws that GOP is replicating in states across the nation - it's good you can still get ID and register to vote in a reasonable amount of time, but how long do you have before they implement the kind of draconian hurdles that have been put in place here?

well, since every U.S. Citizen has a Social Security card and can use that to register to vote. Is the Texas DMV excluding using your S.S. card as a form of ID to register to vote?

You can use your Social Security card to register online, by mail, or at the DMV - that same card is not an accepted form of identification to vote.

You can use a state driver's license, election ID certificate, personal ID, or handgun license, a U.S. Passport, Military ID card, or Citizenship Certificate as long as it has a photo.

The law that approved only these 7 forms of ID also cut budgets, shuttered, and limited hours at DMVs across the state, making it much more difficult to acquire state issued IDs.
