Sometimes the villain is the main character, but they still have to let the hero win because plotline.

also now i kinda wanna a write a story where MC gets shredded to death mid story and the remaining members of his group/party/whatever spend the rest of the story trying to avenge him and then ends with both the good guys and the bad guys dead after the final battle

Or just have the rest of his team mourn him at his funeral and decide mc was their only motivation for being a team, so they just quit superheroing and the rest of the story is just random stuff like "Jerry, A.K.A Super ElasticMan, scratched his chin gently while watching a true crime documentary."
