For this item, my first thought for this action by Mayor Gleam Davis is to prevent Councilmember Brock from becoming Mayor.
Would it be that Mayor Davis doesn't want to give the position up? Or can she not stand someone who isn't up there as a SMRR representative being Mayur?
Then isn't the City Charter there to provide consistency to the City? Or is it beneficial to Gleam Davis for City Council meetings to have more dysfunction and chaos? And if Gleam Davis wants to look at this part of the City Charter, then why wasn't she willing to look at changing the part of the City Charter covering Rent Control?
So if Rent Control is in the City Charter for consistency. Then why is the way a Mayor is chosen not? Won't the change be there long after all of you are gone? Shouldn't the City Charter not be changed on someone's personal whim?
Then I have to say because Rent Control is in the City Charter for consistency. That every election Santa Monica for Renter's Rights proclaims that if you don't vote for their candidate something will happen to Rent Control. Which I hope now you can see is untrue. But that's how we got Councilmembers Davis, Torosis, and Zwick.
So if Gleam Davis is so quick to want to change this part of the City Charter to her benefit, not the City's, her special interest SMRR, not the residents, this is just another glaring example of that.
For these reasons I hope you will not encourage the Mayor in her power grabbing action. Unless of course you're open to changing the Rent Control portion of the City Charter too.
