NATO pushed Putin into a corner. Putin in a heartless thug, so I'm not defending him, but this could have been avoided. What is the point of NATO anyway?

After Communism failed in the USSR and Eastern Europe, NATO had no real purpose. Expanding NATO was a threat to Russian security. This could have been avoided. ten of thousands of lives could have been saved.
