The simple reason why Trump has been so formidable is that he keeps getting indicted. It’s the most obvious point, but it’s hard to escape the reality that the one factor put the race out of reach for anybody else was the fact that Republican voters have rallied around Trump during his legal fights, and they are not ready to abandon him. This seems pretty clear from the data.

He keeps getting indicted because grand juries keep indicting him on legal grounds.

If he stopped breaking laws he’d stop getting indicted.

Will he get found guilty of anything? Maybe.

Will he actually get punished? Doubtful.

Not because he’s “innocent” but because it’s a 2-tiered legal system that wealthy and influential individuals enjoy. Same reason nothing will happen to Joe or Hunter Biden. And Jared Kushner and why GWBush and Co have never been brought up on war crime charges.
