I once saw a help wanted ad that said "prefer two years of college" along with "will be trained to prepare salads".

That's f**kin bullshit! I see absolutely no point in requiring years of experience and a college degree to work some minimum wage job in a restaurant, like you need a college degree to prepare salad. What do you need a college degree for? Are you working at a fancy Michelin star restaurant, making beef Wellington for the lord of pompadour? No, you're flipping burgers and tossing salads for local families and their snot-nosed kids. A lot of people think younger people are lazy and don't wanna work but in reality, getting a job is simply not as easy as it was back in the day. In the 50s, you could get a job just for having white skin and a pulse, these days every "entry-level" job including something as menial as flipping burgers at a local restaurant pointlessly requires a college degree and 5+ years of experience. And besides if, every job requires years of experience for something as menial as flipping burgers, manning the cash register or moving boxes, as if someone who doesn't have years of experience is gonna be incompetent enough to completely f**k up such a simple task, then how is one gonna get experience in the first place when the inexperienced aren't even given a chance for such menial jobs? And people wonder why there's mass unemployment. Younger people aren't even the only ones who trouble getting hired, my mom knew a man who had a PhD who was unable to get hired by anyone despite having such a high level of education and he had to live on welfare.
