At its best, the game has main missions full of cool action sequences. The cutscenes are hard to sit through, but they at least provide context to the story and what you just did. The story isn’t great, but it could be if it was 10-15 hours shorter.
At its worst? FC3 is an open-world cure for insomnia. They made a world jam packed with enemies and animals and somehow made it feel not alive. Clearing outposts, climbing radio towers, and doing wanted missions are some of the most repetitive tasks I have ever done in any video game.
You can go to clear an outpost, and then a leopard will come by and kill every enemy in there for no reason. So you cleared the outpost without even doing anything. HOW HAVE THESE OUTPOSTS NOT ALREADY BEEN TAKEN OVER? The AI soldiers are dumb as rocks.
What makes the world feel extremely lifeless is you see the same enemy models with the same exact voice lines over and over again. The shopkeeper is the same exact person in literally every town. None of the soldiers from your side help you fight to clear outposts. Everything happens because of you, and everyone waits around for you to do things. That IS lifeless. You’re the only sentient being in this game.
This is one of the few times where I just flat out uninstalled a game without finishing it. Only other game I did that with was Rage 2.
Maybe Blood Dragon is better.
