What I'm talking about with this one, is that Bush 2 was the end of the 'normal' Republican candidate election cycle.
It was the election cycle after the Bush 2nd term when the conspiracy theory nutjobs showed up in the mainstream. Do you remember when McCain stopped a Q&A section to defend Obama?
I attributed the birtherism and secret muslim things to their racism. It was, but I mean that there was more going on here.
To state it clearly, the MAGA crazy started mainstreaming then.
And the 2nd term Obama election cycle. During one of the Republican debates Obamacare came up and the crowd was chanting Let Them Die.
It wasn't just their racism that drove the conservative party. It was their grievance politics, their racism, and their desire to make others suffer that was driving the conservative party. What we're calling MAGA now was forming and coalescing then.
Trump didn't take over the GOP. They built a nice office with a view for him and handed him the keys to the place as soon as he showed up.
The selection of Speaker "Maga Mike" Johnson has, to me, shown the end of the Reagan Republican Party.
