My thoughts are that the only way to change the elected officials minds is for THEM to start feeling some pain and discomfort that their policies inflict on the rest of us.
When it starts to affect them, personally, they might think before the pass knee-jerk legislation.
Also, THEY should have to be subject to the same laws they legislate.

I think if some rogue anti-constitutionalists want to suspend the second amendment (or the 13th or 19th), then they should reap what they sow. She sits in her ivory tower surround by an armed detail and expects law abiding citizens to disarm because that’s what’s she’s telling the criminals to do.
