It was more or less the combination of Italy, Germany, and Japan basically becoming super nationalist (they are superior to everyone) Germany wanted revenge for the ridiculously huge reparations forced yearly by France, Mussolini wanted Italy to become greater amoung nations, and Japan was out of oil because of US sanctions, so guess who they bombed, THATS RIGHT! Literally the most productive wartime nation ever (America)
